The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Unit stationed in Philadelphia will support the City of Philadelphia by providing hydration and food to hundreds of first responders and city workers on duty during the three-day National Football League Draft, Thursday April 27 through Saturday April 29.
The Salvation Army’s EDS will help distribute thousands of bottles of water and snacks to an estimated 500 – 600 law enforcement officers as well as municipal employees assisting with security and event support for the NFL Draft to take place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Four EDS staff members and 12 volunteers will utilize two canteen trucks and two ATV’s to provide hydration and food at the law enforcement’s staging area at the Mann Center in West Fairmount Park, and at the intersection of 22nd and Hamilton Streets.
The NFL Draft is set to draw an upwards of 200,000 spectators and temperatures in Philadelphia are forecast to have highs in the 80’s, which according to The National Weather Service is 20-degrees above normal for this time of the year. Staying hydrated will be vital to maintaining the health and wellness of law enforcement officers and municipal employees at the event.
“The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services is always proud to partner with the City of Philadelphia to provide essential support during large-scale events such as the NFL Draft,” said Bob Myers, Director of Emergency Disaster Services at The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware Division. “We are committed to ‘Doing the Most Good’ in the community.”
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) provides basic needs and services to victims of disaster, while also assisting first-responders. Serving 1-2 million Americans in dozens of response efforts nationwide, EDS is often one of the first on the scene to aid emergency response efforts by providing food, shelter, clothing and spiritual comfort.
