September 22 was a day to Celebrate Hope. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia welcomed hundreds of friends, local leaders and community partners to the annual Celebrate Hope luncheon at the Crystal Tea Room. It was a time to recognize more than 150 years of global service to those in need, raise awareness of The Salvation Army’s local programs and services, and to honor two local leaders for their commitment to the betterment of the City of Philadelphia. Despite a deluge of rain to kick off the morning – an army of volunteers descended on The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia on September 19. 500 employees of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) put their regular office jobs to the side, rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time and talents for a Day of Service. PwC volunteers worked on projects at six Salvation Army building across the city – including painting the iconic Salvation Army red kettles, landscaping and grounds clean-up, building maintenance, warehouse cleaning and sorting of holiday toys, as well as fun and interactive activities with older adults living at Salvation Army senior housing complexes. Annual Celebrate Hope Luncheon Honors Two Local Leaders for Commitment to Betterment of Philadelphia
On Thursday, September 22, The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia will gather with hundreds of members of the community to celebrate more than 150 years of global service to those in need, raise awareness of its local programs and services and to honor two local leaders for their commitment to the betterment of the City of Philadelphia.

Youth living at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Red Shield Family Residence got quite a special party this week. The room was packed with new book bags, notebooks, markers, crayons, pencils and much more. Our friends at Philadelphia Gas Works conducted a collection drive over the summer. Employees generously donated back to school supplies for dozens of children living at Red Shield, a transitional housing program for approximately 41 families who are working towards self-sufficiency.
