Volunteers Serve Thanksgiving Meals at the West Philadelphia Corps Community Center

As part of its continued efforts to provide families with comfort, care and hope, The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia hosted Thanksgiving celebrations across the city for hundreds of people in need.

In West Philadelphia, more than a hundred people gathered for a special program that included food, fellowship, ministry and music. Tables covered in brightly colored cloths filled the gymnasium. Local residents shared their vocal and musical talents with the crowd. And dozens of volunteers donning red aprons served each of the families in their seats.

Volunteers Serve Thanksgiving Dinner to Thousands of Philadelphians

More than 4,000 Philadelphia residents enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving dinner in the comfort of their homes courtesy of The Salvation Army.  The annual “Thanksgiving-to-Go” event aims to provide families in need with a memorable holiday and to raise awareness of hunger in our community.

img_7531How much food does it take to feed 1000 families for Thanksgiving? The simple answer: a lot.

The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia hosted its annual Thanksgiving-to-Go on November 24, pulling in the expertise of its Soup’s On! program, teams of volunteers, and dozens of Salvation Army officers and staff from across the area. Thanksgiving-to-Go allows people to pick up their meals in the morning and celebrate the holiday with friends and loved ones in their home later that day. Continue reading “Thanksgiving-to-Go”
