The Philadelphia Soul bring football FUN to summer camp! Players from the Philadelphia Soul arena football team hosted a football clinic for more than 50 local children at our Temple Corps Community Center at Broad and Brown Streets in Philadelphia.

Little kids and their families carted suitcases, duffle bags and pillows down the sidewalk and filed in line at the registration table at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters. The excitement in the air was palpable as more than 140 youth between the ages of 7 and 12 readied to head out for the summer camp experience of a lifetime. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia is among a number of agencies partnering with the City of Philadelphia to provide hope and transform lives of individuals and families living in Kensington and Fairhill. These neighborhoods are being held hostage by the heroin epidemic. On a blistering hot day in July, a team of Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia volunteers headed out with city workers to the area around Hope Park near East Indiana and Ella Streets. Thursday, June 22 was Salvation Army Day at Citizens Bank Park! To celebrate, The Salvation Army treated 500 children to a “Day with the Philadelphia Phillies” to watch the Phillies vs. Cardinals afternoon game.
The children, who are mostly from low-income families and are enrolled The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s summer camp programs, had the opportunity to enjoy a Major League Baseball game up close, which some of them may have never experienced. More than 400 community toy drives, as well as individual donations, resulted in the collection of thousands of toys and gifts for children age 12 and under. 6,000 of those donations alone were a result of the CBS 3 Joy of Sharing campaign!
Throughout the month of December, dozens of Salvation Army staff and dedicated volunteers worked to sort and prepare them for families in need. Parents and guardians, pre-approved for Christmas assistance, were able to select gifts for the children in their family.

Hundreds of families in need were treated to a Christmas extravaganza thanks to our friends at Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo partnered with The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia to host a huge holiday party at Xfinity Live! for 150 local families, approximately 400 individuals, on Friday, December 23. The fun and festive event turned Xfinity Live into a Christmas fantasy land.
