IMG_3947The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Be Your Best program celebrated the conclusion of the 9-week session with a ceremonial tea party at The Sofitel Philadelphia on June 8, 2018. Dressed in their finest, the girls arrived in a limo and walked the red carpet just like celebrities!

The theme for this year’s event was “Shine.” Lorina Marshall Blake, President of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation and Vice President, Community Affairs, Independence Blue Cross, served as keynote speaker.

The camp facilities include a swimming pool, lakeside waterfronts for boating, pioneer living area, hiking trails, animal farm, a high ropes challenge course, arts & crafts and nature lodges, 4 athletic fields and basketball courts. The Salvation Army’s West Philadelphia Corps Community Center is known for its robust 21st Century Learning Zone – an after-school program, which provides young people with a safe, caring and educational environment.  Every weekday afternoon the building is buzzing with students’ energy and excitement – from the digital learning program to puppetry class.

The Philadelphia Soul Scores with Football Clinic for Summer Camp Youth (with photos)

IMG_0606-crpThe Philadelphia Soul bring football FUN to summer camp! Players from the Philadelphia Soul arena football team hosted a football clinic for more than 50 local children at our Temple Corps Community Center at Broad and Brown Streets in Philadelphia.

Kids learned the dynamics of football and the importance of staying active. Camp Ladore: Exploring Life Outside the Big City (Photos & Video)

IMG_0213Little kids and their families carted suitcases, duffle bags and pillows down the sidewalk and filed in line at the registration table at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters. The excitement in the air was palpable as more than 140 youth between the ages of 7 and 12 readied to head out for the summer camp experience of a lifetime. Restoring Hope in Kensington: Video

The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia is among a number of agencies partnering with the City of Philadelphia to provide hope and transform lives of individuals and families living in Kensington and Fairhill. These neighborhoods are being held hostage by the heroin epidemic.
