As part of its continued efforts to provide families with comfort, care and hope, The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia hosted Thanksgiving celebrations across the city for hundreds of people in need.
In West Philadelphia, more than a hundred people gathered for a special program that included food, fellowship, ministry and music. Tables covered in brightly colored cloths filled the gymnasium. Local residents shared their vocal and musical talents with the crowd. And dozens of volunteers donning red aprons served each of the families in their seats.
PHILADELPHIA (December 11, 2018) The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) continues to provide comfort and care to survivors of a fire that occurred at the Overbrook Gardens apartments in the 900 block of North 63rd Street on December 10, 2018.
On November 28, 2018- On-Air Radio Host Lora Lewis featured The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia on her show syndicated program Philadelphia Focus, which airs on WWDB-AM Talk 860 and other local stations.

(November 14, 2018) The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia celebrated the season of giving with its Annual Red Kettle Kick-off on Wednesday, November 14, on the campus of Temple University with help of numerous community partners and friends, such as Herr’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. The Red Kettle Campaign, which runs across the region throughout the holiday season, aims to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s vital programs and services that have shared hope with those in need locally for more than 150 years.
This year’s Red Kettle Kick-Off showcased The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) program. An EDS canteen (mobile feeding unit) was on scene providing coffee and hot chocolate. CBS 3’s Chandler Lutz and Fox 29’s Hank Flynn helped serve the beverages, free Dunkin’ donuts and Herr’s chips to passersby. The Salvation Army’s brass ensemble entertained the public with festive live music. John DeBella, on-air radio personality, 102.9 WMGK-FM, served as emcee, with special remarks by Major WillieMae Lyle, General Secretary, The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia.
