Salvation Army Working with City, Partner Agencies to Support Residents Displaced by Germantown Apt Fire

PHILADELPHIA (January 22, 2019) – The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is working with the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and partner agencies to provide support to residents displaced by a devastating fire overnight in the Germantown section of the city.

 

The fire started just before midnight along the 5700 block of Morris Street in a six-floor apartment building. EDS crews were on scene through the night providing food, comfort and care to firefighters and dozens of people impacted by the blaze.  The building sustained heavy water and smoke damage, leaving as many as 40 individuals without a place to stay. EDS Providing Meals to Displaced Residents at  Temporary Shelter

PHILADELPHIA (December 11, 2018) The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) continues to provide comfort and care to survivors of a fire that occurred at the Overbrook Gardens apartments in the 900 block of North 63rd Street on December 10, 2018.

The EDS served on-scene for over 19 hours assisting first responders on Monday. Currently, more than 40 individuals are being housed at the West Philadelphia High School that is serving as a temporary shelter for displaced residents. EDS has been assisting evacuees with meals, Emotional and Spiritual Care and other goods since the shelter opened. Plans Launched for new EDS Command Center in Philadelphia with Help of $1M Gift from Local Philanthropists

IMG_4750Plans for a new Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Command Center in Philadelphia are now underway.

The project was formally unveiled to the public on July 17 at a reception at the historic Divine Lorraine Hotel. The “Celebration of Philanthropy” marked the launch of the project and honored philanthropists Stephen and Sandra Sheller of Philadelphia, whose generous $1,000,000 gift made the Command Center possible.

EDS Lends Support to City of Philadelphia During NFL Draft
