Little kids and their families carted suitcases, duffle bags and pillows down the sidewalk and filed in line at the registration table at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters. The excitement in the air was palpable as more than 140 youth between the ages of 7 and 12 readied to head out for the summer camp experience of a lifetime. Thursday, June 22 was Salvation Army Day at Citizens Bank Park! To celebrate, The Salvation Army treated 500 children to a “Day with the Philadelphia Phillies” to watch the Phillies vs. Cardinals afternoon game.
The children, who are mostly from low-income families and are enrolled The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s summer camp programs, had the opportunity to enjoy a Major League Baseball game up close, which some of them may have never experienced.
