The faith-based volunteer organization World Changers sent 130 high school students to various non-profits in Philadelphia this June, with 30 serving at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Temple Corps Community Center.
The Salvation Army’s West Philadelphia Corps Community Center is known for its robust 21st Century Learning Zone – an after-school program, which provides young people with a safe, caring and educational environment. Every weekday afternoon the building is buzzing with students’ energy and excitement – from the digital learning program to puppetry class.

Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia Provides Gifts and Toys for 11,000 Children
Theresa Seals had worried what Christmas would bring this year. The grandmother of two little boys gets by on a fixed income that doesn’t leave much room for gifts from Santa. As she left The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters with bags full of toys, games and books, she was overcome with emotion.
“The stuff that you give out, and the donations that are sent in, is truly, truly a blessing. I really, really thank you with all of my heart,” Theresa said with tears in her eyes.
More than 4,000 Philadelphia residents enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving dinner in the comfort of their homes courtesy of The Salvation Army. The annual “Thanksgiving-to-Go” event aims to provide families in need with a memorable holiday and to raise awareness of hunger in our community.
Despite a deluge of rain to kick off the morning – an army of volunteers descended on The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia on September 19. 500 employees of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) put their regular office jobs to the side, rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time and talents for a Day of Service. PwC volunteers worked on projects at six Salvation Army building across the city – including painting the iconic Salvation Army red kettles, landscaping and grounds clean-up, building maintenance, warehouse cleaning and sorting of holiday toys, as well as fun and interactive activities with older adults living at Salvation Army senior housing complexes.
