The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s Be Your Best program celebrated the conclusion of the 9-week session with a ceremonial tea party at The Sofitel Philadelphia on June 8, 2018. Dressed in their finest, the girls arrived in a limo and walked the red carpet just like celebrities!
The theme for this year’s event was “Shine.” Lorina Marshall Blake, President of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation and Vice President, Community Affairs, Independence Blue Cross, served as keynote speaker.

Situated among picturesque mountain ranges, The Salvation Army’s Camp Ladore consists of approximately 1,200 acres of land surrounding a 265 acre lake. The camp facilities include a swimming pool, lakeside waterfronts for boating, pioneer living area, hiking trails, animal farm, a high ropes challenge course, arts & crafts and nature lodges, 4 athletic fields and basketball courts. Outdoor amphitheaters with campfire circles are used during evening programs and devotional times. Each village also has its own activity building for rainy days. The Philadelphia Soul bring football FUN to summer camp! Players from the Philadelphia Soul arena football team hosted a football clinic for more than 50 local children at our Temple Corps Community Center at Broad and Brown Streets in Philadelphia.
Kids learned the dynamics of football and the importance of staying active. Little kids and their families carted suitcases, duffle bags and pillows down the sidewalk and filed in line at the registration table at The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters. The excitement in the air was palpable as more than 140 youth between the ages of 7 and 12 readied to head out for the summer camp experience of a lifetime. Hundreds of families in need were treated to a Christmas extravaganza thanks to our friends at Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo partnered with The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia to host a huge holiday party at Xfinity Live! for 150 local families, approximately 400 individuals, on Friday, December 23. The fun and festive event turned Xfinity Live into a Christmas fantasy land. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia is proud to welcome The Philadelphia Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) to Grays Ferry! PAL recently opened its 18th community center in the city. This one is being operated out of The Salvation Army’s Central Corps Community Center at 3225 Reed Street in Grays Ferry. Hall of Fame Basketball forward Julius ‘Dr. J’ Erving returned to Philadelphia on September 10 to host the 2nd annual Julius Erving Golf Classic weekend to benefit The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia!
